Karl Lagerfeld’s 2009 Pre-fall collection for Chanel was a sight to behold. The runway show was held on December 3rd at the Ranelagh Theatre in Paris to pay tribute to Mademoiselle Coco and the master craftsmen and women who work tirelessly to produce exquisite creations each season. The inspiration was Moscow, a mesmerizing city that captured the heart and interest of Coco Chanel many years ago. After all this was the same magical place that the famed designer fell in love with Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich and eventually thought up her Cuir de Russie fragrance in 1927. Russia’s penchant for intricate embroidery and lavish jewels fit for a tsar and his royal family have been inspirations for Coco and Karl alike. Parisian elegance coupled with Russian mystery and intrigue was a delightful combination from a talented man who never ceases to amaze us. ~ Maria Denardo
