Dress to impress
Maybe you’ve landed a new position where the dress code is a bit more conservative than your current wardrobe. Or maybe you just need something to get you through the door at a wedding reception or job interview. Whatever your reason, you want to look good, and wearing a suit is the way. But how do you go about selecting the duds? Making an educated decision and bringing home a suit that fits your needs can be much easier once you know how to spot quality fabrics and determine a good fit. (more…)
Beat the button-bursting blues!
As we have all found, buttons generally come off at the worst possible time. Graduations, weddings, special dinners and big dates are all prime times to view buttons skittering down to the floor. Well hopefully that button didn’t fall out of sight, or slip between the floorboards (although, if you read on you’ll find out how to deal with that problem as well). Take a deep breath, try not to curse too much, and go find your needle and thread. (more…)
The twins Dean and Dan Caten for Dsquared2 welcome press and buyers in their glamping, chic and glamorous version of the most common camping. Slips in a wood, between white tents illuminated by a crystal chandelier decorated with beds in wrought iron and gilt mirrors the “ladybug” chic Dsquared ². (more…)
So you’re the guy that grooms the groom!
Congratulations! You’re someone’s best friend (OK, maybe you’re just his little brother, but chances are you like the guy), and you want to live up to the title of Best Man. You’re going to have to do more than hand off the ring after he nudges you in the gut–in fact, you’re going to have to become a master of ceremonies, constantly working behind the scenes to make the groom look as good as possible. You’ll be giving speeches, throwing parties and who knows what else. (more…)
Maid of honor? Show ‘em what you’re made of!
They’re supposed to unite two souls in a single bond, but weddings can engender more dissension than a congressional tax hike. That’s where the maid (or matron) of honor comes in. As the bride’s closest friend and ally, the maid of honor has a single objective: make things go as smoothly as possible. You’re there with clear nail polish when the bride’s stockings get a snag; you throw the bridal shower and remember who brought what gift; you steer her friend into choosing the most flattering dress possible; and you might even sew a hem or two. (more…)
Born to run!
Whether you’re dashing off to work or for a night out with your friends, all it takes is a bump against a table. Snag! Looking down at your leg, you see a hole in your new pair of pantyhose, and with every step you take it’ll start to run. Before you press the panic button, sit yourself down and fashion a patch for your hose. It’s a quick and easy job, and pantyhose repaired with nail polish is durable–your patch won’t wash off. “But I LIKE my wrinkles!”
Shirts look their best when laundered and pressed by a professional dry cleaner. But if you can’t get it to the cleaners, you can do a pretty good job with an iron and a little patience.
Give yourself a little extra time so the job is well done and you can make it to that important appoinment or date on time.
If you need to wash a cotton dress shirt, wash it in cold water on delicate cycle in the washing machine, or wash it by hand in the sink. Hang it up to dry. The shirt should be almost completely dry before ironing. (more…)
A premarital affair
When your friend told you she was getting married, you blurted out, “I’ll give you a shower!” Now you’re wondering what that means, exactly, and worrying that you’ll trip up. Do you need to provide tea, cucumber sandwiches, and plenty of giggling? Or maybe you and your coworkers want to honor a betrothed colleague, but don’t really know if it’s proper. (more…)
