Lady like makeup showed its face on fall runways ranging from Prada, left, to Gianfranco Ferre, inset. Makeup artists Patti Dubroff and Matin, whose work frequently appears on the pages of ELLE, reveal the key to channeling Bergman or Bacall at home.
Forget sloppily smudged eye shadow and finger-painted lip gloss. “The look is more precise this season,” says Dubroff. Beauty’s sophisticated side requires three essential additions to your makeup bag: brushes, lip liner, and face powder.
A good brush allows you to apply makeup in an exacting fashion for a polished, grown-up look, and lip liner gives your pout clean definition. Face powder is the final touch for this “1940s Hollywood look,” says Matin. A glamour girl can’t be greasy, so a dusting of powder—applied with a large brush—ensures a velvety finish.
