Spring styles with textures, patterns, and rich depths of color paint a rosy outlook for eyewear. The fashion style for spring is decidedly feminine with unique details and depth that make each piece a work of art. From sculpted temples to architecturally structured frame fronts, there’s a masterpiece out there for everyone.

Some of the major trends to look out for this spring include:

FLORAL MOTIFS: Etched, molded, or attached flowers, blooms, and blossoms enhance frames with a touch of natural beauty.

BRIGHT INTERIORS: The color palette of creams, pinks, whites, early green, and pale or popping blues line frames, creating a brightening effect on the skin for a more lively and youthful appearance.

RETRO INFLUENCES: Design influences from modified cat-eyes to keyhole bridges are on the rise as retro looks from the ’20s through the ’80s are updated for modern looks with classic appeal.

TORTOISE: Carving a new chapter for its story in optical history, the evergreen favorite, tortoise, is experiencing a renaissance. The sheer variety of tortoise colors and patterns is expanding at jack rabbit speeds.

UNIVERSAL UNIQUE. Like art patrons of days gone by seeking a portrait from the artists they supported, consumers are turning to their eyecare professionals seeking eyewear made just for them. Call it Me Generation demand or Gen Y rebellion. Any way you slice it, eyewear consumers are seeking something that gives them a special feel and helps them to define their uniqueness.

On the following pages, we provide a gallery of the styles on exhibition this season. FB

SALES: Gallery Guide

Artist and author Carole Katchen’s recent work, Promoting and Selling Your Art, can serve as an inspiration for optical retailers. Consider the optical equivalent for these art-selling how-to tips:

SCRIPTING: Art lingo

Tired of calling frames pretty, striking, or cool? Try adding artistic references into your selling scripts. Look at frame styles and relate appropriate terms to each model. Add thinkquest.com’s definitions for the following schools of art to your frame vocabulary.

ABSTRACT: Paintings do not have to show only recognizable figures or figures as they appear in the real world. Instead, color and shape express emotions.

CUBISM: One of the first abstract groupings, cubism is modern art that uses geometric shapes to express concepts and feelings.

EXPRESSIONISM: Rather than a perfect realistic reproduction, expressionist works capture a feeling in situation.

FAUVISM: For fans of Henri Matisse, fauvism, meaning “wild beasts” in French, is the way to go. These works feature simple subjects in bright and unusual colors.

IMPRESSIONISM: Painted as if someone just took a quick look at the subject of the painting and drew from that impression, these works often seem to shimmer.

POINTILLISM: Small dots or strokes of paint make up the pictures. From far away, these dots blend together to form the picture and give the impression of different colors as they blend together.

POP ART. An every day item drawn in a brash and colorful way. Inspired by comic strips, advertising, and popular entertainment.

PRIMITIVE ART. Simple, flat, or two-dimensional images with an almost childlike appearance.

REALISM. Art that shows things exactly as they appear in life.

SURREALISM. Paintings generally based on dream. Familiar objects which were painted to look strange or mysterious.

Beautiful Of Contacts Lenses

makeup-contact-lensesFashion plays an important role in many fields of our lives.  Colored contact lenses have become an element of fashion in today’s world.  During earlier times contact lenses were manufactured in order to improve eye sight.  Nowadays they are used to look stylish.

Fashion Lenses

These lenses are usually colored and change the appearance and color of the eye.  They are used mainly in entertainment industries and for personal use as well.  They can be worn on a daily basis or when desired.  The water content for different types of lenses varies.  The most common color chosen by many people is green.  People also go for blue and hazel but not as much as they go for green.

Choosing Lenses

It is important to consult an eye doctor before purchasing fashion lenses as some unsuitable lenses can do harmful damage to your eyes. Once you are sure of which kind of lenses you can use it is important to choose the right color to suit your image.  If you want other people to notice the change in you then you may choose a color that is very much different than your natural eye color.  But if you’re looking for slight changes then choose a color that is similar to your natural color.

Furthermore we will see many earth and sand tones like loam, clay, mud and red earth. Other leading roles for this summer will be played by pink and white. Retro frames will make a huge comeback. Butterfly-shaped frames could be seen on many spring/summer 2011 runways and are a favorite among trendsetters like Scarlett Johansson and Lady Gaga. No better way to pay tribute to the Roaring Twenties.

Cool Blue

Blue will be one of the most prominent trend colors for 2011 and comes in all shades. Night blue, turquoise, cobalt blue, aquamarine,… you name it. Sienna Miller, Kelly Osbourne, Paris Hilton and Lily Allen are just some of the celebrities spotted with blue-framed sunglasses.

Apart from cool blues, hot reds are an essential addition to your eyewear collection for next season. It will be one of the hottest accent colors for spring/summer 2011 and therefore is the perfect choice for accessories like sunglasses. Looking for some examples? FASHION TRENDS – CAT EYE SUNGLASSES

Filed under: Eyewear — flirty @ 4:30 pm

This spring/summer 2011 will see to the resurrection of the cat eye sunglasses trend.

Sprung from the eyewear phenomenon of the 50’s and 60’s, cat eye glasses and cat eye sunglasses are a far cry from a stand-alone trend. Prada in particular featured them across their A/W 2010 catwalks and since then many alternatives have followed.

Since the explosion of the over-sized sunglasses trend for the past couple of summers, the need to update our sunglasses collection is well are truly here with a new and on-trend style.

To accompany the vintage inspired 50’s and 60’s look for spring/summer 2011, from the subtle to the extreme, cat eye sunglasses are the icing on top of our (very large) cake!

Some of you may feel that this shape is too extreme for you. Your best bet is to put on a brave face and try, try try! Search until you find the right type of cat eye frame which works best with your face shape and hairstyle.

If you were thinking your eyeglasses do not affect your personality and overall appearance, think again. The trademark eyeglasses of John Lennon, Woody Allen or even Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts have made a remarkable impact on their personalities. If you too wish to have a charming, glamorous personality this year, you can take a look at the eyeglasses trends 2011 and follow them. Let us take a look at it in detail.

The classic frames are the most fashionable 2011 eyeglass trends. Similar to that of men, eyeglasses in square or rectangular shape with light frames are more in vogue. Frame less light rectangular eyeglasses like those of Sarah Palin are the hottest choice for women in the years 2010 and 2011. Although the colors black, light or dark brown are never out of style for eyeglasses, women can also experiment with other colors like pink, yellow, purple, etc. These colors will also be the top colors in the spring collection of eyeglasses trends 2011. Among all these colors, purple tops the list in eyeglass trends for women as it suits every skin tone and color.

At the same time, according to sunglass reviews, large sunglasses covering nearly all your eyes and even top of cheeks like those of Jacqueline Kennedy are also popular even today. The shape oft he sunglasses can differ according to your face structure and type and will definitely look fashionable. Slanties Eyewear… Hmm?

Some dope has taken a perfectly good design concept and ruined it with a racially insensitive name. Here’s a description from the Slanties Website:

slanties are based on ancient Inuit eye wear. Each pair of slanties is handcrafted. Our light, durable finish shows off the natural wood grain. slanties are engineered to be sturdy and reliable, and each pair is reinforced with a layer of fiberglass. If cared for correctly, your slanties will last for 800 years. Wear slanties on the beach as functional sunglasses. Wear Slanties to the club. Wear slanties to visit your grandparents, they’ll love them too. We hope that each pair will bring you great happiness.

It’s too bad, because I think these could have been a viable product. Maybe not at big as Ray Ban, but possibly big among the trendy set. But the makers lacked proper marketing insight. Good riddance.
