Be A Good Fashion Designer
Forget what you know about the glamour, the clothes, and the sexy image. It takes a lot more than that to spit out the next Calvin Klein.
Take a look around, they are the people waiting your table at Café Luxe, and serving your morning coffee; they are what some have termed as “struggling artists” or FFDA (future fashion designers of America). (more…)

Fashion Illustration
After you get your inspiration, you tend to draw out an illustration to get an idea of what type of clothing your going for. I would say this step could go under making a storyboard or even the next phase into implementing your plan. These are a couple fashion illustrations that inspired me.
Here are some more great fashion illustrations that I collected from the internet for inspiration.
Be a fashion designer….
the-fashion-show-lidia-making-shoes
This week, the designers will have tocreate and entire outfit forThe Fashion Showaround one solitary pair of shoes, which is precisely the way it should be. The contestantsare ecstatic to find out that they will be ditching their teams and working on their own for the rest of the competition.Of course, theconspiracy theories continue to breed as Reco and Anna become increasingly suspicious of one particular designer. Keep reading to see whose torch will be snuffed out forever. Wait, wrong show.
As per usual, Laura Brown from Harper’s Bazaar joins the designers and Isaac reveals that their challenge will involve shoes. Elizabeth Olson, a shoe designer, walks in and tells them that they will create their own version of her shoes using eco-friendly, organic materials. They all receive a blank ankle boot and are given a box of supplies. Reco, the conspiracy theorist, thinks that Andrew is copying him because he is also using fringe. Elizabeth chooses team Reco as the winners, and Johnny R. made her favorite design. He took a risk by turning the boot into a wedge, and she loved it.

Then they are told to meet Isaac at a famous New York landmark, Bergdorf Goodman. Their challenge is to create an entire outfit inspired by one pair of shoes, which they will choose from the store. Angel was a slow poke so Isaac chose a pair for her, which was a Stella McCartney nautical theme shoe. Also, they will be competing solo from now on.
Anna has also become a conspiracy theorist and thinks that Andrew is copying her dress idea from a couple weeks ago. Hey, maybe all these people aren’t conspiracy theorists afterall… perhaps Andrew just sucks? Isaac and Kelly stop by for their check-up. Isaac immediately criticizes Daniella and she cracks under the pressure and second guesses her whole idea. He is also very skeptical of Andrew’s copykat outfit, which lacks any sort of color. In the secret hallway, Kelly says she can’t wait to see Lidia’s, whereas she’s rather leery of Reco’s black dress. Angel isn’t finished with her dress in time, and she has to super glue her buttons on.

Following tradition, the designers are collectively freaking out before the runway show. Reco, of course, feels completely confident that he’s crafted a winning masterpiece. He also finishes his glorified little black dress before everyone else and lays down on the couch. On his way out, Reco tells Daniella that her dress is too simple and that he is the picture of talent… Um, what just happened?! The designers are tucking, sucking, pulling, sewing and whatever else it takes to get ready for The Fashion Show. All of thespectators file in as the models get their last minute touch-ups.
The models come out with Keith’s design first. He chose Valentino shoes and designed a very cute cocktail dress. Next up was Andrew’s dress, which had ruffling like Anna’s previous design, and he used Manolo Blaniks – which automatically gained him points. Haven designed a shorts/top combo with a ruffled front that was very wearable. Merlin, on the other hand, basically took some gaudy Southwestern looking shoe and copied it onto a dress. Seriously, the dress looked exactly like the shoe. Anna’s top was too short and Lidia’s garment was too overdone. Daniella designed a leather dress, and Angel used her nautical inspired shoes to design a white collared shirt-dress. Reco actually impressed the judges with his workmanship on the little black dress.

At the judgement, Isaac tells them how impressed he was this week. Considering the past fashion shows, this is the only one that has had anything I might consider wearing. The top three designs were Reco (ugh…great), Angel, and Daniella. They tell Reco that 90% of the audience said they would wear his dress (double ugh…). Isaac tells Daniella they are glad she pushes the envelope, and they loved the ingenuity of Angel’s shirt dress. However, the winner is Reco… (ok, I’m starting to lose my voice from the amount of ughs)

The bottom two are Lidia and Andrew. Andrew’s dress was referred to as “boring and uninspired.” Someone in the audience said that Lidia’s dress was fit for a Nightmare Before Christmas bride. I can’t say that I strongly disagree. Lidia busts out the big guns and tells them she quit her job to come here and pursue her dream. Blah, blah, blah, we can’t hear you… all we see is crap!
Isaac tells Andrew that he made a safe choice and bored them to tears, whereas Lidia made a bold choice that turned out disastrous. As the lights go dim, Kelly tells Andrew that they aren’t buying it. Lidia and her big, fat elephant tears surviveto design another week! Be sure to tune in next week to see how the designers will be able to make outfits for real women, not the anorexic whatevers that they usually have.

Glamorous Fashion Designer
We’ll be looking now at a great collection featuring the best fashion designers’ sites. The tendency in this kind of sites, much similar with the photographers’ sites that we’ve seen before, is to let the images of the designer’s creation speak for themselves. Therefore, the photos or videos of the fashion collections and fashion shows tend to expand all over the screen and become, again, the main element of the site. The rest of the site graphics is subtle and elegant most of the times in order not to compete with the collection images on display.
Of course, there are also some sites whose graphics are densely drawn or collaged, but in a way that is closely related to the designer’s personal style. Most of the sites are in Flash and they are quite dynamic but the main feature is combining the moving video image with the site graphics in an interesting and original way.
As a bonus, in this collection, you’ll have fun looking at the best collections in the fashion industry at the moment. The sites displayed here are glamorous examples of graphic design, combined with perfect fashion photography. Enjoy this excellent display of the best fashion site graphics!

Designer Alexander McQueen – Biography
Born in the East End of London, the son of a taxi driver, McQueen started making dresses for his three sisters at a young age and announced his intention of becoming a fashion designer.
McQueen left school at 16, landing himself an apprenticeship with Savile Row tailors Anderson & Sheppard, then working for Gieves & Hawkes and the famous theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans. Whilst on Savile Row, McQueen’s clients included Mikhail Gorbachev and Charles, Prince of Wales. At the age of 20, he spent a period of time working for Koji Tatsuno before traveling to Milan, Italy and working for Romeo Gigli. McQueen returned to London in 1994 and applied to London’s most prestigious fashion school, Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design to work as a pattern cutter tutor. Due to the strength of his portfolio he was persuaded by the Head of the Masters course to enroll on the course as a student. He received his Masters degree in Fashion design and famously, his graduation collection was bought in its entirety by influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow, who was said to have persuaded McQueen to change his name from Lee to Alexander (his middle name) when he subsequently launched his fashion career.
McQueen’s early runway collections developed his reputation for controversy and shock tactics (earning the title “enfant terrible” and “the hooligan of English fashion”), with trousers aptly named “bumsters”, and a collection entitled “Highland Rape”. It has also been claimed that he was on income support and that he needed to change his name for his first show so that he could continue to receive benefits.
The president of LVMH, Bernard Arnault caused a stir when he instated McQueen as head designer at Givenchy in 1996, succeeding John Galliano. Upon arrival at Givenchy, McQueen had the nerve to insult the founder by calling him irrelevant’. Thus, his first couture collection with Givenchy was unsatisfactory, with even McQueen telling Vogue in October 1997 that the collection was “crap”. McQueen toned down his act at Givenchy, but continued to indulge his rebellious streak, causing controversy in Autumn 1998 with a show which included car-robots spraying paint over white cotton dresses, and double amputee model Aimee Mullins striding down the catwalk on intricately carved wooden legs. McQueen stayed with Givenchy until March 2001, when the contract he said was “constraining his creativity” was ended.
Some of Alexander McQueen’s accomplishments include being one of the youngest designers to achieve the title “British Designer of the Year”, which he won three times between 1996 and 2003. He has also been awarded the CBE, as well as being named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. December 2000 saw a new partnership for McQueen with Gucci Group acquiring 51% of the company, and McQueen serving as Creative Director. Plans for expansion have included the opening of stores in London, Milan, and New York, and the launch of his perfumes Kingdom, and more recently My Queen. In 2005, McQueen collaborated with Puma to create a special line of sneakers for the shoe brand.
In the summer of 2000, McQueen married his twenty-four-year-old lover George Forsyth, a documentary filmmaker. The ceremony, which took place in Ibiza on a yacht owned by a friend of supermodel Kate Moss (who was also bridesmaid), was covered by the press in much the same way as any other celebrity wedding.
Alexander McQueen by the end of 2006 had boutiques in London, Paris, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Milan, Rome, Nice, Cannes, Manchester (UK), Athens, Moscow, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, Jakarta, Bangkok, and Taipei.
