Women’s Trenchcoats

The women’s trenchcoat is back in vogue. Could it be the 24/7 news media influencing fashion? Or maybe it’s the crime and court TV dramas causing the trench coats for women trend. Whatever the reason for popularity of women’s trenchcoats, this dapper garment offers lots of versatility and fashionability making it a worthy addition to your wardrobe.

Today’s women’s trench coat is offered in a variety of colors of beige hues, cream, and darker browns and black. The fabric used in the trench coats for women will typically consist of a stiff canvas-like outer weave with a fashionable sheen. The materials is water repellent and able to offer protection from wind gusts and fall and winter precipitation. Flanel lining is an attractive feature of a quality womens trenchcoat. Large functional buttons, “dummy” buttons, snaps as well as a belt is a common feature to the women’s trenchcoat.

Women’s trench coats can be worn in a variety of fashion configurations. These include pairing with jeans, lightweight cargo pants, boots, short or long sleeve cotton shirts or sweaters. From the male perspective, high heels are a super sexy pairing with the womans trenchcoat. Petit women are advised to select trenchoats for women that do not fall below the knee as this will make you appear shorter than necessary. A classy and well designed scarf and gloves of colors that compliment the neutral colored trenchcoat and you are all set.

New York City is the fashion capital

Just walking around New York city, all I can see are the outfits.  In a city with over 15 Million people, with most parading around on foot, people tend to express themselves not in the cars they drive, but in the clothes and shoes they wear.  And that’s why for me, New York is the world’s biggest fashion show.

Just yesterday I went into NineWest on 5th avenue, and it was a buying frenzy as the store offered discounts of as much as 35% off bags and shoes.  And if you don’t find your size but just have to have a particular style, NineWest is happy to ship you out what you need free of charge.  I bore the unfortunate task of assisting my girlfriend carry a multicolored sequins bag stuffed with a heavy laptop, but it was all worth it when a store clerk complimented me on what she thought was a nuveau chique male accessory.

We left NineWest bags in hand, and taking in the attire of everyday New Yorkers as we headed downtown along 5th avenue.  You could see beautiful young maidens clad in simple, yet elegant spring/summer dresses.  Some of them actually need help as we observed more than one flawlessly skinned scantily summer dressed beauty with shoes that don’t quite match the dress.  Men are still suckers for business suits, although some are beginning to radicalize traditional business attire with more Euro variations.

Looking down at the grimy city streets is a feast for the eyes for those with a foot fetish.  The latest open toe shoes some with the most wonderfully pedicured toes known to man are everywhere you look.  And there’s an abundance of comfy and trendy urban kicks of every conceivable color scheme and design you can imagine adorning hipster men’s feet.

So if you want to check out fashion, you have to check out New York.

Accessories are all a great way to add retro glamour to your outfits…

Lately I am feeling more and more inspired by retro glamour or fifties pin up styles. I particularly loved some of the outfits that I saw at Vintage at Goodwood and as irritating as she is, I can’t help admiring Katie Perry’s retro inspired look and outfits. I love the drama, the fun and the femininity of this look.

I am not sure that it can work as an everyday look for me at the moment, although I might try it out for some special occasions, but I love the idea of incorporating a bit of retro glamour into my every day style. Here are a few ideas on how you can do this.

Darimeya tunic dresses have been around for a while now, and the only reason it’s taken The Fashion Police..

Darimeya tunic dresses have been around for a while now, and the only reason it’s taken The Fashion Police so long to get round to covering them is because, well, that’s how long it’s taken me to get over my all-consuming hatred of tunics. So, basically, this is the post where I get to eat my words and admit that these tunics? Rock.

Latest Fashion Show-2011

Just like Grand and Fashion Forward opening of New York Fashion Week Spring 2011, its closing day was also drenched in promising Spring 2011 Fashion trends. Calvin Klein Spring 2011, Ralph Lauren Spring 2011 and L.A.M.B Spring 2011 Collection marked end of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring 2011 in NYC.

Designer Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B Spring 2011 fashion show was finale show that was attention grabbing and perfect to end Fashion Week on a high note. L.A.M.B. Spring 2011 rtw New York Fashion Week Collection represented Africa and flaunted a lot of casual and multi-colored prints and patterns in vibrant colors of blue, red, white, green, yellow and browns.

Gwen Stefani Spring 2011 NYFW show was more like a party where models walked to a soundtrack of remixed Estelle and MGMT on runway.

Looks including tie-dye maxi dresses, baggy pants, long, loose pants, mini-skirts, dresses, long skirts, jackets and blouses; all were superb.

A pretty dress needs tough shoes to add a fashion edge…

This summer continues to be the season of the dress. It’s about little dresses and big shoes. The good news? A dress is ageless, recession proof and there is a dress to suit every style, every bottom and every budget. Look for a strong, architectural shape with shoulder details. Short is big news if you have great legs. It could be strapless. It might be a one shouldered with interesting goddess draping details. Or a simple dress in a single bold, bright colour. We love white but there are pretty florals or graphic African prints. You always want chic timeless classic black. You may even squeeze into a sexy body con number if you have stopped eating in 1995. NB: your wallet will have a big say and so will your bottom. (more…)

This is an important occasion for each ‘active’ watch brand…

Emerging British luxury watch maker Bremont recently announced their first diver’s watch. This is an important occasion for each ‘active’ watch brand.Having at least one solid diving watch is a positional and status signifier. Sort of like saying that the company is not serious about its theme unless it has a functional diving watch. Though the brand is based in England, all watches are produced in their atelier in Biel-Bienne Switzerland. (more…)

Dior Haute Couture, Fall/Winter 2010-2011

In the heart of the Rodin Museum garden, the botanist John Galliano presented an haute-couture fashion show dedicated to the floral arts. Decorated with giant artificial flowers, the catwalk witnessed a succession of models who seemed to come straight out of (celebrated Paris florist) Pascal Mutel’s studios.

Dior Haute Couture 2011

The floral universe may be a continual source of inspiration for haute couture, but in the hands of John Galliano it was taken to another level, becoming nothing less than the backbone of the latest Dior collection.

Despite having been cradled in Japanese influences and enamored with sophistication, the AD of this Parisian fashion house did not simply allow nature to take over. He treats camellias, irises and orchids like elements capable of being made more beautiful than nature in the hands of man. Galliano does not invite us into a wild poppy field, but more into a place dedicated to floral decoration.

The designer evoked — in an almost literal fashion — the details necessary to finish a bouquet: a colored raffia ribbon, a seemingly plantlike cord for a belt, or a piece of cellophane wrap serving as a hair ornament.

Dior Haute Couture 2011

Resembling creations that might be found in the halls of a luxury hotel, Galliano’s ensembles transformed simple pansies, hyacinth grapes and thistles into refined compositions taken to the extreme of aestheticism.

This being said, Galliano did not imprison himself in the rules of floral composition. He gave himself the authority to create head-to-toe petal and pistil ensembles (putting his creations at the service of the materials used to make them), or to conceive of an outfit like a flower in and of itself, rendering it even majestic. He also does not hesitate to repeat the leit motif of his show via bulb-shaped, gravity-defying hairstyles or satin skirts stuck with a dozen petunias.

In addition, there were the many references to the original Dior woman in John Galliano’s couture wardrobe: the comeback of the bar jacket, the omnipresent long gloves, opulent gowns and New Look references flirted with lily-shape inspired volumes.

Dior Haute Couture 2011

In the end, between the Alice in Wonderland décor and the ode to the magnificence of flowers, Galliano delivers a highly contrasted collection of audacious color harmonies, while remaining firmly in his own language. However (by omitting anything that was not floral), he may have run the risk of giving too much of a good thing..
